Today:

A colder day than of late, particularly where exposed to northwest winds. It will be dry with good sunny spells, although cloud increases for a time in the east during the morning. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

A dry evening with largely clear skies. Cloud increases overnight with some patchy rain in the early hours in the west. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Friday:

Outbreaks of rain, heavy for a time, clears east in the afternoon. Then sunny spells with a few scattered showers. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A very windy weekend with showers or longer spells of rain, occasionally wintry Saturday night. Lighter winds on Monday, dry at first, rain later.

Following a widely unsettled weekend, conditions are expected to briefly become more settled and colder with a weak ridge of high pressure moving across the country. This is not expected to last, with further cloud, rain and stronger winds moving quickly east across the UK on Monday, reintroducing very mild conditions. Following this, a more prolonged period of settled weather looks likely to develop as an area of high pressure becomes established across much of the UK, confining spells of rain and wind to the northwest of Scotland. It may even become settled here too, but confidence in the north/south boundary between settled and unsettled steadily lowers through the period. Becoming widely mild, perhaps exceptionally so in some places, although clearer spells overnight may lead to localised frost and fog.

Often settled across southern areas, with fairly dry, mild, but cloudy conditions dominating overall. More unsettled further north, with majority of periods of rain, and stronger winds, affecting this region, especially northwest Scotland. Whilst colder, brighter, and potentially wintry spells cannot be ruled out, particularly early in the period, overall temperatures have a greater than normal chance of being above average.
