Bright spells and mainly dry at first, but rain spreading into eastern parts in the morning, becoming heavy and persistent over East Lothian and the eastern Borders.in afternoon. Some showers in west, perhaps a longer spell of rain in afternoon Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Rain will clear away in evening, leaving a rather cold night with fresh to strong northerly winds and clear spells. Then mainly dry overnight, but showers over coasts. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Saturday:

Mostly dry and bright but feeling cold with rather strong northwesterly winds, Showers over coasts and a scattering of showers over Dumfries and Galloway, these wintry over hills. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mainly dry start Sunday, less windy, but rain in afternoon. Colder again Monday with scattered showers and stronger northwest winds. Dry, bright start Tuesday before showery rain spreads from west.

A changeable start to the period with low pressure near to the UK bringing periods of rain and strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions are likely to be across the northwest with perhaps some decent drier interludes across the south and east. Around the turn of the month or into early November, wetter and windier conditions across the north and west are likely to extend more widely across the country. The detail is somewhat uncertain but it is likely that low pressure becomes established to the west of the UK allowing bands of rain to spread across the country at times. Temperatures perhaps little below average at the start of the period, but likely trending upwards with potential for a mild spell around the turn of the month.

Vortex - Unsettled conditions are most likely during early November with showers or longer spells of rain across all areas at times along with spells of strong winds. Temperatures through this period are overall likely to be around or above average with any colder spells short-lived between weather systems. Into mid-November, while there is an increased chance of more settled spells, the likelihood of whether settled or unsettled conditions are more prevalent are reasonably balanced.
