Today:

A cloudy start to Wednesday with hill fog and a few showers. Turning much drier through the afternoon with bright or sunny spells developing. Feeling pleasantly warm in sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Increasingly cloudy from the west through the evening with showers spreading east overnight. Turning a little drier with some clear spells by dawn. Staying mild in towns and cities. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Thursday:

A bright start with plenty of warm, sunny intervals throughout Thursday. A few isolated light showers are possible, mainly in the east of the region, but most places staying dry Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

A few showers possible on Friday otherwise largely dry with warm sunshine. Staying dry and sunny on Saturday, but cloudier with outbreaks of rain from the northwest on Sunday.

Outbreaks of rain will spill southeast across many areas through Sunday into early Monday, but any rain becoming light and patchy in the south. Early next week there is the potential for an unseasonably deep area of low pressure to affect the UK, which would bring widely windy and wetter weather, though the details around this are rather uncertain. Following this, a continuation of the broadly changeable pattern with occasional spells of rain or showers, some drier, brighter interludes and temperatures probably near average for the most part. As we move towards mid-month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier and more settled conditions becoming more widespread and perhaps some warmer weather developing, compared to the preceding couple of weeks.

High pressure, and therefore more settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. There may still be some rain and cloud clipping the west or northwest at times. For most, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although short periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
