Tonight:

A mainly sunny evening followed by a dry night with largely clear periods. Turning rather chilly, especially in the countryside, where a few localised fog patches may form later. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

Some sunshine in the south at first, but cloudier across Cumbria with cloud spreading south through the morning. Mostly cloudy through the afternoon with sunny intervals. Cooler though less breezy. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

High pressure will bring a settled picture through this period. Remaining dry with a mixture of cloud and sunny periods. Chilly nights at first but feeling warm in the sunshine.

High pressure is likely to be the dominant feature at first, which would bring widely fine and dry weather for the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend. Whilst this is happening, low pressure in the Atlantic is expected to bring a change in weather to the UK, though the timing of any specific features is currently uncertain. From early to mid-week, high pressure is likely to become increasingly eroded from the west as areas of low pressure and frontal systems start to move in from the Atlantic, leading to more changeable conditions with spells of rain through the remainder of the week and the following weekend. Temperatures likely warm or very warm to start before quickly trending towards average.

Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely. There will be the potential for periods of stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear.
