Cloud and rain clearing southwards this evening allowing a drier interlude, with some lengthy clear periods to develop overnight. Blustery showers reaching western hills by dawn. Turning colder. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Wednesday:

A mixture of sunny spells and blustery showers Wednesday, these will be locally heavy, with hail, thunder, and some sleet and snow on hills. Feeling colder, with added wind chill. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Largely dry and bright Thursday, after some early coastal showers. Rain clearing overnight into Friday to give drier and brighter conditions. Unsettled with some heavy showers Saturday. Feeling cold.

A broadly changeable pattern will continue, at least through the first part of this period, as further frontal systems move across the UK, bringing rain and stronger winds at times. Weather fronts are likely to be more active across northern areas, thus the wettest and windiest conditions are more likely here. As they come south, often running in to a ridge of higher pressure extending from the southwest, frontal systems will often be weaker and rainfall amounts smaller. In this setup, temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light.

High pressure may be more dominant at the start of this period, the centre of which transferring from somewhere west or southwest of the UK to somewhere north of the UK. As such, plenty of dry weather seems most likely, but with changes in wind direction leading to some quite marked differences in cloud amounts and temperature from day to day. Moving further into April, there is a chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus there is a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to average.
