A dry and bright morning with sunny spells, but cloud will eventually spread in from the north, bringing a few isolated showers. Some of these may turn heavy and potentially thundery in the late afternoon. Warm. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Tonight:

Showers will spread south during the evening, eventually merging into light rain. The second half of the night is expected to become largely dry with a few clear spells developing. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Friday:

A dry start with sunny spells followed by cloudier skies. Staying dry with gentle winds, although the odd shower cannot be ruled out over high ground. Cloud breaking up late. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Dry with light winds and sunny spells on Saturday. Heavy rain spreading east on Sunday, dry but windy in the afternoon. Unseasonably windy on Monday, with heavy rain and showers.

Early next week there is the potential for an unseasonably deep area of low pressure to affect the UK, which would bring widely windy and wet weather, especially for the west or northwest of the UK. The forecast around this is rather uncertain, however, and it is also possible that this will turn into a less windy but still wet spell further south. Following this, a continuation of the broadly changeable pattern is expected, with spells of rain or showers, some drier, brighter interludes and temperatures mainly near average. As we move towards mid-month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, warmer and more settled conditions becoming more widespread.

High pressure, and therefore fairly settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August, though the northwest may see more in the way of occasional rain than other areas. For most, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although short periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
