This Evening and Tonight:

A fairly cloudy evening, largely dry although the odd shower remains possible, mostly over high ground. Some breaks in the cloud will occasionally develop in the east, perhaps more widespread later in the night. Some light winds throughout. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday:

Generally dry and bright, though rather cloudy, with any sunny spells likely to be brief. A few isolated showers will develop during the afternoon, some turning moderate in the east. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Fairly cloudy with scattered showers on Thursday, locally heavy. Fewer showers on Friday. Dry and bright on Saturday, with light winds and an increasing chance of sunshine. Rather warm.

Outbreaks of rain will spill southeast across many areas through Sunday into early Monday, but any rain becoming light and patchy in the south. Early next week there is the potential for an unseasonably deep area of low pressure to affect the UK, which would bring widely windy and wetter weather, though the details around this are rather uncertain. Following this, a continuation of the broadly changeable pattern with occasional spells of rain or showers, some drier, brighter interludes and temperatures probably near average for the most part. As we move towards mid-month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier and more settled conditions becoming more widespread and perhaps some warmer weather developing, compared to the preceding couple of weeks.

High pressure, and therefore more settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. There may still be some rain and cloud clipping the west or northwest at times. For most, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although short periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
