Today:

Cloudy but dry at first for many. Rain in the northwest will then spread rapidly southeast becoming persistent and heavy from the morning. Soon becoming windy. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

The night will stay cloudy with persistent and heavy rain continuing, particularly over Argyll and Lochaber. The wind will gradually ease down overnight. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Saturday:

Little change as rain continues Saturday heavy at times in the north as southern parts become drier. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Rain will turn showery Sunday morning with the afternoon becoming drier and brighter. Monday and Tuesday continue mostly dry and bright.

Likely a fairly cool start to the period with a few showers still to clear from the east, but for most it should become fine and dry, although some chilly mornings are possible. Through the rest of the week any rain will tend to focus on the north or northwest of the country, with the south becoming predominantly dry. Temperatures are likely to remain close to, perhaps a little below average initially. However through the second half of the week and especially the following weekend there are signs that temperatures will begin to trend up, becoming warm or very warm once again, especially across southern parts of the UK, but perhaps more widely as we head toward the middle of July.

Changeable conditions with a predominantly northwest to southeast split in temperature and rainfall, and the potential for further occasional episodes of hot weather and thundery outbreaks, are considered likely to gradually give way to something more settled and dry overall through the second half of July. Temperatures are likely to be above average, with the greatest chance of very warm or hot spells in the south or southeast.
