Today:

Isolated mist and fog patches possible through the morning but mostly clearing. Otherwise dry and largely cloudy for much of the day with sunny spells in the morning especially. Becoming cloudier later in the afternoon as heavy rain spreads northeastwards. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

A cloudy and wet start with rain, often heavy, spreading northwards. Becoming dry for all parts overnight with some clear spells developing. Strong winds for a time. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Monday:

A dry start with clear spells. Turning cloudier through the morning with showers breaking out. Turning dry again through the afternoon with clear skies developing. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Cloudy with heavy rain on Tuesday. Drier Wednesday with a few sunny spells. Mostly dry and cloudy on Thursday. Strong winds Tuesday and Wednesday before easing Thursday.

A continuation of a similar pattern to that seen through early December is anticipated, especially at first, as frontal systems from the Atlantic spread into and across the UK, interspersed with some temporary drier interludes. These will bring occasional spells of rain, which may be heavy at times bringing the risk of some impacts given how wet it has been lately. In addition, there may also be potential for some periods of strong winds at times too. Whilst it will often be mild, later in the period there may be a transition for temperatures to return closer to average, with a slightly higher chance of some wintry hazards across northern parts of the UK, especially on high ground.

Changeable conditions are expected across the UK during this period. Low pressure systems will probably dominate, meaning showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, for much of the UK and some hill snow in the north. Periods of strong wind are also possible, especially around coasts. Some drier, more settled spells are possible but how long these last is very uncertain. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly above overall.
