Today:

Cloudy start but brightening up across Highland in the morning. Thickening cloud will bring a little light rain to the Western Isles by late morning, this spreading across the west in the afternoon. Staying dry elsewhere. Warm in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

A few bright spells this evening, otherwise cloudy with patchy rain clearing away. Thickening cloud will bring outbreaks of mostly light rain east in the early hours. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Thursday:

A cloudy start but some bright or sunny spells developing by the afternoon. Chance of a few passing showers. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry with sunny intervals on Friday, just the odd shower. Dry and bright on Saturday. Cloudy on Sunday with rain spreading east for a time.

Outbreaks of rain will spill southeast across many areas through Sunday into early Monday, but any rain becoming light and patchy in the south. Early next week there is the potential for an unseasonably deep area of low pressure to affect the UK, which would bring widely windy and wetter weather, though the details around this are rather uncertain. Following this, a continuation of the broadly changeable pattern with occasional spells of rain or showers, some drier, brighter interludes and temperatures probably near average for the most part. As we move towards mid-month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier and more settled conditions becoming more widespread and perhaps some warmer weather developing, compared to the preceding couple of weeks.

High pressure, and therefore more settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. There may still be some rain and cloud clipping the west or northwest at times. For most, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although short periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
