The day will be dry, mainly cloudy and cool over Caithness and Sutherland as well as along the Moray coast. Warmer in long sunny periods west and south. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

Chilly in long clear periods for most during the evening staying dry but becoming cloudy with clear spells from the late evening. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Thursday:

A chilly start for many otherwise a dry day with sunny periods increasing from the morning. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Mostly cloudy and dry with sunny spells Friday through to Sunday. A few light showers over high ground Saturday and more widely Sunday.

High pressure is likely to be the dominant feature at first, which would bring widely fine and dry weather for the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend. Whilst this is happening, low pressure in the Atlantic is expected to bring a change in weather to the UK, though the timing of any specific features is currently uncertain. From early to mid-week, high pressure is likely to become increasingly eroded from the west as areas of low pressure and frontal systems start to move in from the Atlantic, leading to more changeable conditions with spells of rain through the remainder of the week and the following weekend. Temperatures likely warm or very warm to start before quickly trending towards average.

Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely. There will be the potential for periods of stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear. Temperatures are likely to be near to, or slightly above average overall.
